An eleven-month-old Dutch girl was killed in an attack by Iran on Iraq. This was reported by outgoing Minister Hanke Bruins Slot (Foreign Affairs) on X. Two family members were injured, a ministry spokesperson told NU.nl.
The spokesperson cannot say whether the two family members are the parents of the deceased child. Bruins Slot confirms that they also have Dutch nationality.
The eleven-month-old girl had multiple nationalities, the minister said. For privacy reasons, nothing further can be said about the identity of the girl and her family.
According to Kurdish media, the baby’s mother and brother were injured. The girl’s father is also believed to have died. Rudaw reports that it concerns the Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee.

The attack took place in Erbil, in the north of the country. Bruins Slot says it “strongly” condemns the incident. She also spoke to her Iranian counterpart and asked for clarification. In addition, the Iranian ambassador has been summoned to The Hague.
“The death of the young child and other civilian victims is terrible, we deeply sympathize with the relatives,” the minister wrote. “We are providing consular assistance to the family during this difficult time.”
Iran carried out attacks on Syria and Iraq
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) carried out attacks on Syria and Iraq earlier this week. Targets were hit in the Erbil area, where the IRGC says the “local headquarters for espionage activities” of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad is located. There is no evidence for that.
Erbil is the capital of the Kurdish Autonomous Region of Iraq. This means that the area officially falls under Iraq, but does have its own Kurdish administration. The American consulate is also located in Erbil.
