A police officer died in a car accident last night while en route to a hospital in Westchester (NY) as part of an investigation.
The officer, whose name has not been released, worked for the East Fishkill police force in Dutchess County.
On Monday around 6 pm the officer was driving an official vehicle on the Taconic State Parkway when went off the road and hit a tree near mile marker 36.2, the New York State Police (NYSP) reported. He was pronounced dead at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.
NYSP and East Fishkill Police Department investigators said when the officer crashed was being transferred to Westchester Medical Center to continue a separate investigation into another car accident that had happened near the East Fishkill police station.
There were no other people in the officer’s vehicle at the time of the accident. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time, he reported. Poughkeepsie Journal.
In 2021, a police officer was fatally struck while investigating a previous traffic accident on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) in Queens (NYC). It was later determined that he had been run over by a woman who was driving high, drunk and without a license.

The Governor Kathy Hochul signed last week the “Angelic Law”, intended to keep drivers with prior suspensions off the road by felony charging repeat offenders who operate vehicles without a valid license after committing five or more traffic violations that resulted in prior suspensions or revocations.
