The sports world is in mourning, after the sudden death of 30-year-old Cătălin Ștefănescu, from Târgoviște, national and Balkan bodybuilding champion. Investigators say the man drowned while fishing.

The man from Târgovis was part of the national team for the 2020 Balkan Championship, being among the biggest names in Romanian bodybuilding, with a track record that includes a champion title, but also a Balkan title.
He was found breathless near the locality of Lazuri, in a fishing lake. The tragedy happened on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
Investigators say that, most likely, the athlete was hurt and drowned in water that was no more than a meter deep.

“The police were alerted by the administrator of a lake about the fact that a person has died. After going to the scene, the police found that a 30-year-old man, while fishing on a lake in Lazuri, was found drowned. The police are conducting investigations, going to establish exactly all the circumstances of the occurrence of the event”, stated IPJ Dâmbovița.

Acquaintances and friends were stunned to hear the news.
