The person who died in a tragic accident in the Sea Garden of Burgas is 31-year-old Yordan Zhelev. The young man was on a walk together with his childhood friend Chanko Chanev, with whom they were the same age. This is what made the two simultaneously climb the U-shaped social monument, composed of three elements. “Something happened to us while we were walking down the alley. We saw the white monument from afar and thought it might make for an interesting selfie. We both managed to climb. Before we took a picture, the foundations shook and we went flying at the same time – he backwards and I forwards. That’s how one of the columns trapped my friend”, Chanko, who miraculously survived and has very minor injuries, told the emergency medical team and the police at the very beginning. However, his friend is literally smeared. They were in the Sea Garden together with Chanko’s parents. According to Flagman.bg sources, the people were very meek and with normal behavior. The same monument was often used for strength training by avid athletes. Often some of these monuments become objects of vandalism precisely for this reason. They were used for the so-called passive and active “hanging” and pull-ups to accumulate muscles on the back and abdomen.
In the case of Yordan and Chanko, however, things are not as the police assumed. Flagman.bg was reminded this night that it was hooligans who destroyed one of the symbols of the city near the Summer Theater – Neptune’s Trident, which is a monolithic stone sculpture of several blocks. It was brought down about 15 years ago by youths using physical force.
The deceased Jordan is married and has a 3-year-old daughter.
The collapsed sculpture this evening is not located near the avenue, along which, in addition to pedestrians, cars also pass. She is well into the lawn and must purposefully get to it. What exactly she used to lure the two young men into the dark remains unclear, especially since the grassy area was muddy from the afternoon rain.
