A 14-year-old boy died after falling from a New York City subway train. He was attempting to climb onto the roof of the train, a dangerous tendency that is dubbed “subway surfing”.
The boy fell from a train in the borough of Queens, New York. He suffered a fatal head injury, ‘The Mirror’ reported.
He was then taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His identity remains unknown. Authorities do not know if he was accompanied or alone.
This death marks the seventh of this year in connection with this new trend popular on social networks, especially on TikTok, where teenagers have fun doing “subway surfing”, or climbing on the roof of trains, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
The previous week, another teenager, Brian Crespo, lost his life while practicing “subway surfing”, while another boy was seriously injured.
According to information from the MTA, 52 people used public transit while staying off the train in February 2023, and 58 cases were noted in January 2023. These are numbers that send chills to the mayor of New York, Eric Adams.
The latter has also asked the management of TikTok to remove videos that promote this dangerous activity from their platforms, which have already produced millions of views at the time of writing these lines.
TikTok wished its condolences, before stressing that these videos will be removed from the social network when they are found.
