A tragic event took place in Pod Záhorskem Street in Pilsen this morning at around 4:30 AM. A person burned to death in an electrical waste container.
According to local residents, shouting began to be heard in the street before 4:30 in the morning. “Someone here was screaming people come to me, come to me, and someone shouted at him from the window not to make a fuss. Then the firemen arrived and for about an hour they cut through the electrical waste container,” one of the local residents described to us.
“They were taking someone out of that container, only his hands and a piece of his head were peeking out of the drum, but I think he was already dead,” added another.
The thick-walled metal container became a death trap for a man who apparently climbed inside for something to cash in on. But because these containers are designed precisely to prevent this, the man was no longer able to climb out through the rotating metal drum, even when the electrical waste underneath caught fire.
According to the shift commander of the fire brigade, the Pilsen Střed and Košutka units intervened on the spot. Upon arriving at the scene, the firemen immediately started extinguishing the fire and at the same time began to cut the container with circular saws in order to free the man.
Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, it was not possible to get the man out of the container in time, and the doctor could only state his death.
A coroner was called to the scene to examine the body, and the investigation of the case was taken over by Pilsen criminal investigators. A fire investigator is now investigating how the fire inside the container started.

“The doctor of the rescue service diagnosed the man with very serious injuries, from which he died on the spot,” the press spokeswoman for the rescuers told us.
The police spokeswoman added information and said that the police already know the identity of the deceased. It is about a man born in 1983. She also confirmed to us that the investigation of the case has been taken over by criminal investigators, an autopsy of the deceased has been ordered and criminal proceedings have been initiated.
One of the investigative versions is that the man wanted to light himself with a lighter in the container.
