Last month, a female audience member in her 20s collapsed and died at a Brazilian concert held by world-famous pop star Taylor Swift (33). As a result of the autopsy, the cause of death for the deceased fan was confirmed to be heat-related illness.
According to Brazilian media such as G1 on the 27th (local time), Ana Clara Benevides Machado (23) was confirmed to have died from heatstroke due to extreme heat.
The media reported that the autopsy report included the following: “It was determined that there was cardiovascular shock and lung damage due to heatstroke.” There were no traces of alcohol or drug use on his body, and he appeared to have no underlying diseases.
The deceased suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed while watching a Swift concert held at Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos in Brazil on November 17. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but died the same night.
It was reported that the highest temperature in Rio de Janeiro on the day of the accident rose to 39.1 degrees. It is said that about 60,000 people gathered at the concert hall, and the perceived temperature inside the concert hall was close to 60 degrees. Despite the heatwave at the time, the concert organizer, T4F, reportedly prevented audiences from bringing in water bottles for safety reasons.
In relation to this, the police are conducting an investigation into charges of manslaughter by T4F officials. T4F said, “We are cooperating with the investigation, including providing all information requested by the investigative authorities.”
Meanwhile, on the day of the deceased’s death, Swift posted a handwritten statement on Instagram and expressed her condolences. “His heart was shattered,” he said. “She is in a state of deep shock that is difficult to describe,” he said, adding, “We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends.” She also invited her bereaved family to a concert held in Sao Paulo later and personally conveyed her condolences.
