The four people who went missing when their freighter Verity sank after a collision have probably died. The ship sank in the North Sea above Germany. “There is no more hope for the missing,” the head of the Havariekommando said on Wednesday.
Emergency services said on Tuesday that crew members may still be alive on board the sunken ship. Divers have searched in vain for signs of life. The search was stopped during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Authorities must determine whether searches will continue and whether action will be taken at the sunken ship.
After the collision, three people were pulled from the water on Tuesday afternoon. One of them had already died. Divers looked for signs of life from the other four people on board the ship. Even during the night, “numerous” ships and helicopters were still working to find the missing, but the search was without success. This was also made more difficult by the bad weather.
The rescue service also says that the other ship involved in the collision, the Polesie, has now docked in Cuxhaven. All 22 people on board are unharmed.
