A shocking collision between a car and a truck caused both vehicles to split in half, leaving 3 people dead and another 2 seriously injured.
The accident occurred in Lakewood Township, New Jersey, during the early hours of Saturday, according to local authorities.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office detailed that the crash occurred when the car ran a red light and collided with the truck, at the intersection of Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire avenues.
Both vehicles ended up split in half.
The smaller car, which had four passengers on board, left the road after impact and crashed into the metal pole of a traffic sign, causing it to split in half.
The Prosecutor’s Office noted that the driver and another passenger were declared dead at the scene. Another victim died later at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Two other passengers remained in critical condition as of Saturday night.
After the crash, the truck overturned at the scene and split in two due to the force and weight, authorities said. The driver of this vehicle was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
The fatalities have not been identified and the accident is still being investigated.
