A young woman died after being hit by a taxi in Santander. Weeks after the accident, a key video in the investigation was released: a security camera captured how the woman and her boyfriend were pushing a motorcycle and, in a matter of seconds, the vehicle ran them over.

The couple was traveling in the Chimitá sector, jurisdiction of the municipality of Girón, on October 16 in the early morning hours. They stopped on the road, apparently, because they had run out of gasoline to continue the journey.
The taxi driver fled after hitting the couple.
Karen Tatiana Hernández, 23 years old, decided to cross the road, because there was a gas station nearby. Her boyfriend, pushing her motorcycle, followed her. They had not reached the separator when a taxi appeared and ran over them, as seen in the videos revealed by the local newspaper Vanguardia.
The young woman was taken to a care center, where she died due to the severity of her injuries. Her partner suffered broken legs.

The taxi driver fled the scene. However, he went to the authorities hours later to give his version. According to reports, he stated that he did not see the couple when he crossed the road.
“You cannot go faster than the permitted speed. The place was illuminated. As a driver, the speed must be respected and that way I can react if I see any person or object on the road. So there is great responsibility on the taxi driver,” reproached Carlos. Augusto Guarín, lawyer for the young woman’s family, for the aforementioned newspaper.
The lawyer demands that the Prosecutor’s Office advance the investigation of the case and establish the responsibility of the taxi driver, who had an expired driving license and several summonses in his name.

According to data from the National Road Safety Agency, between January and September 2023, 6,151 people have died in Colombia due to traffic accidents, with motorcycle users being the most affected (3,821 victims), followed by pedestrians (1,273 victims). .
In Girón, Santander, 16 people have lost their lives (including 12 motorcycle users and three pedestrians) so far in 2023.
