A tragic accident took place this Saturday, February 3 around 7 p.m. on the A47 motorway, near Dargoire, towards Lyon. Two vehicles were involved in this serious accident.
Law enforcement is working to establish the exact circumstances of the accident. As reported by The Progress, one of the vehicles ended up on its roof, carrying five young women on board. Unfortunately, four of them lost their lives at the scene, while the fifth was seriously injured and transported to Lyon Sud hospital with a life-threatening condition.
The firefighters, numbering around twenty, had to intervene to extricate the five women from the damaged car. In the second vehicle, a family was present. The father, who was behind the wheel, and the four children escaped physically unharmed. The mother, as a passenger, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lyon Sud hospital.
Four witnesses to this tragic accident were in a state of shock and were also treated by emergency services. The highway was closed to traffic in the Saint-Etienne/Givors direction for more than two hours. Traffic was restored to one lane around 10:30 p.m.
It should be noted that this accident constitutes the first fatal tragedy on the roads of the Loire in 2024. The authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact causes of this incident.
