A 30-year-old man, driving his car backwards into the yard of the house, did not notice his little more than one-year-old son and ran over him. The baby died at the scene.
“The driver really didn’t notice. It was a closed area, let’s say it’s a blind spot. The road traffic accident happened in a closed area, when the gates themselves cover the visibility, we think they covered the view, that’s why the accident happened, the car hit a small child,” said the traffic police service manager Mindaugas Jermeika, reports the Lithuanian media “tv3.lt”.

“Awful…Father? He must be out of his mind. Terrible,” said the neighbor.
According to neighbors, the young family recently moved to the countryside. They had little contact with their neighbors. The police do not doubt that there was an accident, but an investigation has been launched. “In all cases, we investigate traffic accidents, we check the driver to see if he was sane. The driver was sane,” Jermeika said.
Police say gates often block visibility in private areas, so drivers are asked to be extra careful.
“Such a situation can happen at any time. A small child is much smaller than a car, it is practically impossible to see him in the side mirrors,” says a police representative.
The exact circumstances of what happened will now be clarified by the police, but the basic version at the moment is that there was an accident. In the meantime, the police ask the public “not to judge the parents, it is very difficult for them anyway”.
Another child is growing up in the family of the dead baby.
According to the news of “tv3.lt”, the police were called by people nearby who witnessed the accident.
A man was born in 1993 driving a VW Passat into the yard and hit a child to death (born in 2022). The prosecutor’s office confirmed that the deceased was the driver’s son.
