After the fatal flight, the vehicle burst into flames
At least 21 people have been killed, 12 injured and five are missing after a serious accident in northern Italy. A bus fell from an overpass and crashed near a railway line in the town of Mestre, near Venice. The vehicle then burst into flames due to hitting electrical cables and igniting the fuel – methane.
Authorities said the passengers were local residents returning from work.
“It’s an apocalyptic scene. I have no words,” wrote the mayor on the social network X the mayor of the city Luigi Brugnaro.
Trains were suspended in the area and the Venice railway station was closed. The reasons why the vehicle left the roadway and fell from a height of 10 meters are currently unknown. There are a large number of ambulances, fire teams and police officers at the scene.
