A FrieslandCampina employee died on Thursday afternoon due to an accident at the production site in the Frisian Gerkesklooster. The employee became trapped between a wall and a vehicle. It is not yet clear how that happened.
An “extensive investigation” has been launched to determine the cause of the accident, the company said.
Emergency services and other employees tried to free the employee, but these attempts were to no avail. FrieslandCampina says it is “deeply shocked and defeated” by the accident.
“Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased employee and we offer them our sincere condolences.”
FrieslandCampina is now focusing on aftercare for employees and the victim’s relatives. The company emphasizes that safety “is always the highest priority” and says it is doing everything it can to “ensure that these types of tragic accidents are prevented in the future.”
