NEW JERSEY — A 7-year-old boy died Wednesday night after falling from the twenty-first floor of an apartment building in New Jersey, officials and witnesses told NBC 4.
Fort Lee authorities, in the early stages of their investigation, said the child fell from an apartment complex on Anderson Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
A man passing by the complex at the time said the boy fell from one of the building’s highest floors.
“The police officer told me that the boy died on the spot. He fell from the 21st floor,” Kamal Singh said.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the boy’s death Wednesday night. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was eventually pronounced dead.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Fort Lee Police Department determined that the circumstances surrounding the child’s death were the result of a tragic accident and no criminal activity.
No further details were released.
