A 23-year-old resident of Rotterdam died in an accident on the night from Saturday to Sunday. The victim drove into a tree on the Abram van Rijckevorselweg in Capelle aan den IJssel around 1.45 am.
The man died on the spot, police said.
It has not been released what type of vehicle the victim was driving. According to Rijnmond it was an electric car that caught fire after the collision.
Emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident with an immersion tank. That is a container filled with water to extinguish an electric car.
The Abram van Rijckevorselweg is a N-road that connects the Maasboulevard in Rotterdam with Capelle aan den IJssel, among others.
