In one of the wedding halls in the Al-Hamdaniya district in Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraq, a wedding turned into a tragedy due to a sudden fire that left painful stories of hundreds of victims, and widespread global solidarity.

Several sources in Al-Hamdaniyah (Qaraqosh) said that the newlyweds survived the fire, and one of the wedding guests revealed, in his statements, that the bride and groom, Haneen and Revan, are fine and in good condition, but their psychological state is not good and is devastated due to the wedding tragedy.

Preliminary official statistics indicated that the fire claimed the lives of 94 people, and caused 101 people to suffer burns and suffocation.

Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari said that the fire broke out in a large event hall in Al-Hamdaniya after fireworks were ignited during the ceremony, causing a fire to break out in the ceiling and collapse on those present.
Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, Saad Maan, confirmed that “nine people working in the hall were arrested as a precautionary measure and arrest warrants were issued against four of the owners of this hall,” as a result of this incident.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, Khaled Al-Muhanna, explained the reasons that led to the increase in the number of victims, and said that they were the lack of safety measures, the use of fireworks, and the presence of more than a thousand people in the event hall. He pointed out that preliminary investigations confirmed the lack of sufficient corridors and emergency exits, in addition to the failure of building materials to meet the correct specifications.
Today, Wednesday, the Security Council of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced the arrest of the owner of the hall that caught fire, and his handover to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.
