Kochi ∙ Pradeepan stood in front of the intensive care unit of Aster Medcity, overcome with grief. Tears were often shed on the cloth wrapped around his left hand. Pradeepan’s family suffered the biggest tragedy in the Kalamasery blast.
The body of daughter Libna (12), who was killed in the blast, was brought to Govt. Medical College Mortuary. His seriously injured wife Sally (45) and son Praveen (24) are on ventilators in Aster ICU. Sally and Praveen do not know about Libna’s death. Younger son Rahul (21) is undergoing treatment at the medical college.
Pradeepan’s wife Sally and 3 children of Katuvankuzhi family living in Malayathur attended the convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kalamaseri. Pradeepan did not attend as he had a cooking job at the college hostel in Marampilly.
Libna’s death was confirmed after midnight on Sunday. She is a 7th class student of SNDP Higher Secondary School, Neeleshwaram. The body has been kept in the mortuary as the funeral time cannot be decided as the mother and siblings are undergoing treatment.
Praveen, a marine mechanic, came to Chennai on a 10-day vacation to attend a convention. Rahul is a student. Pradeepan, a cook, has been living in Malayathur for 3 years. The ancestral home is Chandrapura near Manjapra.
