New York, April 28. A woman and her two daughters, ages 10 and 8, died today in New York from burns and smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at her home, in an apartment building in Brooklyn, local media reported.
The 40-year-old mother and the girls were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The fire started around five in the morning in the apartment on the third floor of the building where the family lived. There was a fire alarm in the apartment and the fire department is investigating whether it was working.
Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, who responded to the scene as well as Mayor Eric Adams, said that although firefighters were on the scene within three minutes, the fire was “very advanced” in the apartment’s kitchen.
Firefighters had to cross the fire to reach the bedrooms where the girls and their mother were, who have not been identified.
Three other people suffered minor injuries in the fire. EFE
