The death toll from a stampede at a stadium in Madagascar, an island nation in the Indian Ocean in Africa, has risen to 13.
According to Al Jazeera on the 26th, 13 people, including 7 children, were killed in a stampede at the Mahamasina Stadium in Antananarivo, the capital the previous day.
This is an increase of 1 from the 12 deaths confirmed the previous day.
The death toll may rise as 11 of the 85 injured are said to be in critical condition.
According to Madagascar authorities, at around 4:30 pm the day before, dozens of spectators who were trying to watch the opening ceremony of the ‘Indian Ocean Island Games’ at the Mahamasina Stadium flocked to the entrance at once, and dozens of people were crushed by the crowd, resulting in death or injury.
