A 37-year-old sportswoman from Vendée, accustomed to long-distance races, died at the 45th kilometer mark of the Endurance Trail in Aveyron, this Friday, October 20.
The organizers of the Festival des Templiers announced the death of a runner from Vendée who was participating in the Endurance Trail this Friday, October 20.
The trail runner was registered for this race for the first time, but was used to running on long distance courses.
“She was an athlete used to this type of effort” we indicate at ESM Challans where this resident of Saint-Gilles Croix de vie was made redundant until 2021.
After setting off in the early morning for an ultra-demanding race of 104 km and 4,550 elevation gains, the young woman, aged 37, suffered a cardiac arrest at 45 km near Saint-André de Vézines, shortly before 12 30 p.m.
“The emergency teams on site then immediately intervened, but despite the rapid arrival of a chartered helicopter, the doctor dispatched to the scene could only note the death,” points out Odile Baudrier, organizer of the event.
The Templar Festival is a trail running competition which takes place every year during the last weekend of October.
On the program, eleven races are organized from Friday to Sunday, with more than 10,000 participants. The events take place in the Grandes Causses territory in the south-east of the Aveyron department.
This is the first time in 29 editions of the festival that such a tragedy has occurred, shocking the running community.
“The great trail family and more particularly that of the Templars is deeply saddened by the loss of this runner, and joins the organizing team to offer its condolences to the family and loved ones.” reacted in a press release the organization of the event.
