Tragedy in New York. Saturday August 5, Krystal Cascetta, a 40-year-old oncologist, shot and killed her baby before committing suicide. The facts took place in the neighborhood of Somers, located about 80 kilometers from New York City. According to a preliminary investigation by the New York State Police, Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s bedroom around 7 a.m.
She would then have fatally shot her baby before turning the gun on herself. The baby’s first name, age and sex were not revealed by the police. Local media speak of a four and a half month old girl. At the time of the murder and suicide, Timothy Talty, husband of Cascetta and father of the child, was absent from the family home.
‘Tragic loss’
Krystal Cascetta was a renowned oncologist. She practiced at Mount Sinai Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the country, located on the island of Manhattan. According to the hospital’s website, Cascetta specialized in gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers, as well as breast and bone cancers. She was also in charge of the Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center, a treatment center for cancers and blood diseases. Mount Sinai Hospital said “deeply saddened” by this “tragic loss».
