A 16-year-old shot his mother and killed two police officers before taking his own life in Edmonton, Canada.
A police official and a senior government official said, “The young man shot and wounded his mother early Thursday morning in a city apartment in the province of Alberta. from shooting.”
Edmonton Police Chief Dale McVeigh said the gunman was shot and killed, and the mother was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition but is now stable.
McVeigh identified the deceased officers as Travis Jordan, 35, who was with the Edmonton force for 8 1/2 years, and Brett Ryan, 30, an officer for 5 1/2 years.
“I can’t tell you how devastated we are after losing them,” McPhee said.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, expressing his condolences and support to the officers’ loved ones and colleagues, and said: “Every day, police officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep people safe, and the news that two Edmonton police officers were killed in the line of duty reminds us of that fact.”
