Tragedy Strikes: 4-Year-Old Twins Found Dead in Toy Box in Florida

In late August, Sadie Myers and Donald Starr from Jacksonville, Florida experienced every parent’s worst nightmare.

Four-year-old twins Aurora and Kellan were found dead in a toy box in their own room. The tragedy is now widely reported by the American media.

The police in Jacksonville in Florida, USA, received the emergency call on the morning of Saturday 26 August, writes the local newspaper The Florida Times-Union.

Under investigation

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation should have been performed at the scene, but lives could not be saved, according to the American People.

– Work is underway to determine the cause of death. At this time we do not know if it is an accident or suspicious death, police said in a statement on Tuesday.

At the same time, they stated that no charges have been brought, and that the case is under investigation.

Mora Sadie has described the incident in a long and frank manner posts on Facebook. She writes that her husband Donald put the couple’s four children to bed on Friday night, before he himself went to bed.

When Sadie came home from work later that evening, everyone was asleep. She explains that she peeked into the twins’ bedroom. Everything looked normal.

“At one point or another during the morning hours, the twins probably woke up and decided to play,” writes the mother.

– Held each other

Furthermore, she claims that it was not unusual for the four-year-old to wake up early – and then fall asleep on the floor among the toys.

“This night they apparently found out that they were going to climb into a play chest where they keep their stuffed animals. They threw out all but a few. They lay cross-legged with their arms around each other. I want to believe they said ‘good night, kell kell’ and ‘night night, sister'”, the post continues.

Later, one of the twins probably managed to move so that the lid of the coffin fell down, the mother believes.

“I wasn’t aware of it – and I’d like to think a lot of people don’t know it – but such wooden toy chests become airtight and completely soundproof with the lid down.”

Means they died in their sleep

She believes the four-year-olds slowly but surely ran out of oxygen inside the coffin, and that they died in their sleep.

When they discovered the next morning that Aurora and Kellan were not in bed, they frantically searched the whole house, according to the mother.

“We panicked, shouted for them and turned the whole house upside down. We ran out into the streets.”

While the parents searched desperately, the twins’ older brother is said to have found the four-year-olds. According to the mother, he thought they were sleeping in the coffin.

“I ran into the room, but I quickly discovered that it was already too late. This will never make any sense. I hope that my post can make other families get rid of such toy chests. They must be destroyed immediately!”, concludes the mother.

– They are hardworking parents

Last week, the twins’ aunt, Deanna Myers, created a crown roll on the collection site GoFundMe.

She describes Sadie and Donald as hard-working parents who have done everything they can for their four children.

“They both work full-time jobs, one in the morning and one in the evening, so they never have to leave the children alone with a babysitter. I know they were tired, but they still managed to be loving and present for all four children every single day – without exception,” writes Deanna.

Furthermore, she explains that the money collected will ensure that the parents do not have to go back to work in the first place.

“The parents and their two remaining children should be able to grieve together for a while, without having to worry about bills and expenses,” she writes.

At the time of writing, $26,000 has been collected. This corresponds to close to NOK 280,000 at today’s exchange rate.
