The victim died as a result of the eruption Mount Marapi in West Sumatra (West Sumatra) increased. West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Suharyono said the death toll is currently recorded at 23 people.
“I want to update the information, of the 75 registered climbers, 52 people have been rescued, although there were minor injuries, serious injuries and so on. And 23 were declared dead,” said Suharyono as reported by detiksumutTuesday (5/12/2023).
Suharyono said the 23 victims who died were people whose whereabouts were known. Currently the joint team is still looking for a number of people who are still trapped on Mount Marapi.
He said 32 teams consisting of 300 personnel were deployed to evacuate the remaining victims on Mount Marapi.
“There are 32 teams working together, working together to help with the evacuation process. The number reaches 300 people,” he said.
Separately, Head of the Padang SAR Office, Abdul Malik, said that his party had handed over a number of victims who died during the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra. So far 16 bodies have been handed over to the Disaster Victim Identification (DIV) team. National Police.
“The update for SAR operations as of 21.10 WIB has totaled 16 people. We have now handed it over to the National Police DVI at Akhmad Mukhtar Hospital,” said Abdul Malik in a statement to journalists.
Abdul Malik said the evacuation process for climbers who were still trapped on Mount Marapi was still ongoing. Tonight there is a team evacuating the location.
