“Tragedy Strikes: 20 Girls Killed in Guyana Hostel Fire”

Georgetown: 20 children died in a fire at a secondary school hostel in the South American country of Guyana. The deceased were girls between the ages of 12 and 18.

The accident happened around 11.40pm local time on Sunday in Mahdia, a town known for its gold and diamond mining in central Guyana. Most of the sleeping children were trapped inside the hostel. The death toll will rise.

It is reported that 57 children were in the hostel. Many people were injured. They are being airlifted to the capital Georgetown for specialist treatment. The cause of the fire is unclear.
