Tragedy on the Piave, two brothers aged 14 and 18 drowned

Two Senegalese brothers aged 14 and 18, Fallou and Bassirou Bop Sarigne, residing in San Biagio di Callalta, drowned in the waters of the Piave river this afternoon, July 20, shortly after 6.30pm. The young people were in the water, in the company of other compatriots; suddenly the two were swept away by the current, literally disappearing into thin air. The episode took place in Fagarè di San Biagio di Callalta, in an area often frequented by bathers looking for relief from the great heat of these hours. The children who were with the victims gave the alarm: they saw them disappear, without being able to do anything. The searches, which ended tragically, were carried out by the firefighters of the Treviso provincial command, by 118 personnel and by the carabinieri, also with the use of the Suem helicopter that flew over the area. The bodies of the two boys were found a kilometer away from the point where they had disappeared, in Negrisia, in the Ponte di Piave area, in a particularly difficult spot for rescuers. In the area of ​​the river where the 14-year-old and 18-year-old dived, despite the great drought, the river is up to five meters deep and there are eddies and eddies that were fatal to the two boys.
