Tragedy on the asphalt. 63-year-old Nikos is dead after a severe collision

The black list of victims who breathed their last on the asphalt this year is growing, with 63-year-old Nikos Kouniaidis, formerly of Nicosia, being the 24th victim.

According to the police, around 11:10 a semi-truck driven by a 27-year-old man in Halepianes hit the rear of a vehicle in which the unfortunate 63-year-old man was riding, while he was waiting to attempt a right turn. As a result of the impact, the 63-year-old’s vehicle entered the oncoming traffic, where it was hit again by a passing car driven by a 58-year-old. Due to the severity of the collision, the 63-year-old was trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle, as a result of which he needed the intervention of members of the fire department to extricate him.

The 63-year-old was taken to the Nicosia Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers investigating the new fatality tested the drivers for alcohol with zero readings.

The exact causes of death of the unfortunate 63-year-old are expected to become clear with the scheduled autopsy that will be performed on his body at a later stage.

The circumstances of the new fatality are being investigated by the Nicosia traffic police.
