Massa Carrara, 6 June 2021 – Tragedy on Apuan Alps. A 46-year-old woman originally from Pescia (Pistoia), in the late morning of today 6 June, during an excursion on Mount Spallone, behind the town of Colonnata, it is plunged into a ravine and died. The recovery of the body was very difficult as it ended up in a very inaccessible area. The intervention of the mountain rescue, the 118 and the fire brigade was useless.

According to the reconstruction of the team from Carrara and Lunigiana del Sast, who intervened on the spot, the woman was with her partner on the crest of the Spallone del Sagro, and fell downhill for about three hundred meters, stopping a few meters from the Saccagna quarry. The companion, he explains again, immediately tried to reach her and called for help. The accident occurred around 11.20: the team, which started from Monte Sagro, and the Pegaso 3 helicopter rescue immediately headed to the accident site but the dense fog made the hiker’s recovery operations very long, so much that the helicopter rescue managed to land only in the afternoon. The traumas reported in the fall were fatal for the woman. The judicial authority is also on the spot. The body was transported downstream with the means from the side of the quarries.
