A tragic traffic accident occurred today, July 30, in Nové Město nad Metují. A BMW passenger car, driven by a senior citizen, first hit a 46-year-old woman at a pedestrian crossing, then hit three men who were repairing the sidewalk. One of them did not survive the impact.
The accident happened in Nové Město nad Metují on road No. I/14 in Komenského Street. “First, there was a collision between a BMW passenger vehicle and a pedestrian who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. Subsequently, the vehicle hit three other men aged 28, 49 and 50, who were repairing the pavement near the accident. A forty-nine-year-old man suffered injuries incompatible with life,” confirmed police spokeswoman Karolína Macháčková.
Doctors took over the care of the other two men and a pedestrian with serious injuries. The youngest of the men was airlifted to the Hradec Králové University Hospital. “A forensic autopsy will be ordered for the deceased,” added the spokeswoman.
According to Karolína Macháčková, the 73-year-old driver suffered minor injuries in the traffic accident. Alcohol was ruled out by a negative breath test. His ride ended with a crash into a parked truck.
All participating components of the integrated rescue system – fire protection units, the Hradec Králové Region Medical Rescue Service, the Police of the Czech Republic and the city police – cooperated with great commitment on the spot. “Together, the place of the incident was secured, the firemen were also involved in the provision of first aid and helped the rescuers with the treatment and transport of the injured,” the regional firemen informed about the demanding intervention and specified that among the firemen were the professional firemen from Dobruška and the local volunteer firemen from Nové Město nad They sweep.
Subsequently, the fire brigade took care of removing the consequences of the accident, covered the leaked operating fluids and, after documenting the scene, helped load the passenger car for towing. Communication I/14 was closed for the necessary time.
All circumstances and the cause of the traffic accident are still under investigation by the Náchod police.
