Tragedy in Delhi: Four Family Members Die from Smoke Inhalation Due to Burning Coal

New Delhi: Four members of a family, including two children, died after inhaling smoke from burning coal in Delhi’s Alipur. Coal was burned for cooling. Delhi Police said that the bodies were found on Sunday morning. Rakesh (40), his wife Lalita (38) and their two sons Piyush (8) and Sunny (7), who lived in Khera Kalan village in Delhi, died.

Rakesh, a native of Bihar, was working as a tanker truck driver. After closing the door and windows and burning coal (ankiti) he went to sleep. The post-mortem report said that all the four died due to suffocation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravikumar Singh said that further investigation is underway. Earlier, five children of a family died in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district after inhaling smoke from burning coal.
