International Women’s Day, a date intended to commemorate the achievements and fight for women’s rights, is marred by tragic news that leaves the Chilean labor community in mourning. In a fateful accident that occurred in the Radomiro Tomic Division of Codelco, located in Calama, a young worker lost her life while she was carrying out her work.
The event occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Friday, when the extraction truck operated by Ana Camila Rojas Farías, only 30 years old, caught fire. According to preliminary reports, Rojas did not manage to escape the fire that consumed the vehicle in which she was.
Codelco issued a statement expressing its deep regret over the fatal accident and announcing the immediate suspension of operations in the affected area. In addition, an investigation was launched to clarify the causes of the event and prevent tragedies like this from being repeated in the future.
The independent deputy -PPD and President of the Codelco Investigative Commission, Cristián Tapia, joined in the condolences and deeply regretted the death of Ana Camila Rojas Farías.
