Thirteen children died in a fire at a boarding school in China, Chinese state media reported on Saturday. According to the local news site Zonglan News all victims were in third grade and around nine years old.
The fire raged in a dormitory of the private boarding school in Yanshanpu village on Friday evening. It is located near the city of Nanyang in Henan province in central China. The fire was quickly extinguished.
The manager of the boarding school has been arrested and an investigation has been launched.
The disaster received a lot of attention on Chinese social media. On Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of X, it is one of the most shared topics and calls for a fully transparent investigation into what happened.
