The starting gate for the Regent Cup Paser Road Race, East Kalimantan (Kaltim) collapsed. Racer Andi Supriady (35) died and Abdul Said (28) was rushed to hospital due to injuries caused by the gate falling.
“That’s right (one victim died), the other is still being treated in hospital,” said Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Regional Police, Kombes Yusuf Sutejo, as reported by detikSulselSunday (10/12/2023).
The deadly incident occurred at Tapis Stadium, Tanah Grogot District on Saturday (9/12) at around 16.30 WITA when the participants started the race. The starting gate suddenly fell in a rainstorm and hit the racer.
“The activity was just yesterday, it was planned to be held yesterday and today,” he explained.
Due to this incident, the police stopped the event. Currently the police have examined 8 witnesses.
“Because of this incident, the event was immediately stopped, so far 8 people have been questioned,” he explained.
