A 15-year-old boy has been killed in a shooting at a school in Offenburg, Germany. The shooter, a classmate of the same age, has been arrested.
Around noon, the police received several reports of shots fired at the school in the southwest of the country, the Badische Zeitung newspaper reported. Emergency services arrived on scene and entered the building. There they found the seriously injured teenager. First aid was provided at the scene and the boy was taken to hospital. He died there.
For safety reasons, the 180 students had to remain in the building until the school had been completely searched. The police determined that the classmate was the only suspect and were able to clear the building.
Motive
The motive for the shooting is “probably personal,” according to police. Further details about the victim, the weapon, the perpetrator and the circumstances have not been released. The head of the Public Prosecution Service tells the Badische Zeitung that the perpetrator will be charged with manslaughter.
