EU (EL UNIVERSAL).- Lisa López-Galván, a 40-year-old DJ and die-hard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, died after the shooting during the Super Bowl champion parade in Kansas City, which also left more than 20 injured.
The mother of two “was the most wonderful, beautiful person,” said Lisa Lopez, a longtime friend who works as an executive editorial administrative assistant at the Kansas City Star.
The DJ texted her friend at The Star, looking for a commemorative edition of the Super Bowl victory, and wrote: “Can I get a newspaper?” Lopez recalled. “She has a beautiful family. She was a very happy person.”
“She was a local DJ. She did everyone’s weddings. We all know her. She was so full of life.”
It is unclear if López Galván is the only death that Kansas City police have confirmed or if his killing marks a second murder.
The woman, who graduated from Bishop Miege High School and lived in Shawnee, was a disc jockey for community radio station KKFI and co-host of the show “Taste of Tejano,” which featured Hispanic music. Beto López, president and executive director of the Guadalupe Centers, is her brother.
“For Lisa, music is life and a source of happiness,” reads her biography on the KKFI website. “Anyone could mentally ‘escape’ while she listens to her favorite genre; “Music can also be a form of therapy for some.”
During the afternoon, López Galván’s Facebook was filled with messages of hope and prayer. “Sending prayers to you and your family,” one said. “One of our friends needs your prayers in a big way!!!!!” said another. “Your son and little cousin need your prayers too! Please pray for the doctors and nurses who work in all 3 and hold them up and lift them up in your prayers.”
According to friends and family, López Galván’s adult son also suffered a gunshot wound and one of his two cousins, believed to be minors, was injured in the chaos.
Jackson County Legislator Manny Abarca wrote: “I have known Lisa and her family for over a decade,” he said. “I have witnessed that smile on the DJ equipment and on stage at our biggest party in Kansas. City. I won’t let her death come in (in vain). “I will legislate, I will fight and I will do everything in my power to improve this state and this city.”
KKFI said, “This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from his family and this KC community.” “She is someone who added a voice that is often overlooked,” said Kelly Dougherty, director of development and communications for KKFI. “We can talk as much as we can, but her words don’t do this justice, they don’t do her justice.”
“So much sadness. So much devastation and incredible loss. … She just went there to have fun.”
He died during surgery at a hospital from a gunshot wound to the abdomen on Wednesday afternoon.
According to The Star, at a press conference at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said one person had died and between 10 and 15 had been wounded by gunshots. López Galván is believed to have died after that initial press conference. At 5:30 p.m. at the press conference, the number of shooting victims increased to 22. However, police continued to confirm only one death.
A spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department did not confirm whether Lopez-Galván was the confirmed fatality of the shooting.
