Just before 18:00 on Saturday evening, the Swedish Road Traffic Center can issue a traffic warning about strong winds in Steigen.
– There is a risk that the Engeløy Bridge will be closed for periods due to strong winds, they write on Twitter.
– There is an automatic wind warning, so the bridge will open and close according to the strength of the wind.
Traffic operator Synnøve Lukkassen in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration informs AN that it was not until Saturday afternoon that the wind picked up.
– Right now, the highest measurement is 33.29 meters per second. It is very loud, she says.
The bridge closes automatically when there is a gust of wind of 30 meters per second.
– It looks like it’s at its worst now, she says.
– The bridge will probably alternate quite a bit between being open and closed.
