This Thursday, the Urban Environment Agency and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration had traffic control at Grimen, along the Hardangervegen in Fana.
The City Environment Agency was mainly involved in ensuring that everyone using studded tires had paid the fee for the season.
Of 88 vehicles stopped, 33 had not paid.
– This is a normal result, notes Trond Søreide, head of department at the Urban Environment Agency.
If you have not paid the studded tire fee, you risk receiving an additional fee of NOK 750. The studded tire fee for the winter season is NOK 1,400 for a light car and NOK 2,800 for a heavy car, according to the municipality’s website.
– But if you are passing through from the neighboring municipality, you can, for example, buy a 24-hour wafer, says Søreide.
Had a normal checkup
While the Urban Environment Agency focused on the studded tire tax, the Swedish Road Administration had routine checks.
Steinar Atle Våmartveit in the Swedish Road Administration can say that 22 vehicles were selected for inspection due to visible defects. Three of these vehicles had trailers.
While one of them had a non-functioning brake light, another received a fine and a lack of a tire that had too little tread depth
– The last trailer was only poorly secured, so it was allowed to drive again when the driver secured the load better, says Våmartveit to BA.
Furthermore, two cars were stopped because they had installed solar film on the front side windows.
– It’s a black transparent film that makes the cars look a bit tougher, explains Våmartveit, and adds:
– But it is not allowed to use such film on windows from which the driver must have a clear view.
– It is important to take an extra round
Seven vehicles received a deficiency note for lack of dipped beam. Våmartveit emphasizes that it is important to check the car before driving, now that it is so dark outside.
– It is not always that the vehicles speak up even if a light were to go off. It is important to take an extra lap around the car before driving, both to be able to see others in traffic, but also to be seen.
Otherwise, two fines of NOK 1,300 were issued for not wearing seat belts. Two fines of NOK 500 were also issued for not having a vehicle license with you.
Had to go straight to the workshop
There was also a check at the traffic station in Åsane on Thursday evening. 65 heavy vehicles were checked. Four were banned from use.
A foreign-registered truck train stood out. There was a lot that was not right.
Both brake discs had incipient cracks. Then it is only a matter of time before they crack, according to the report from the Norwegian Road Administration.
In addition, the tractor had large oil and coolant leaks. The exhaust pipe was rusted to pieces, the exhaust brake disconnected and the tachograph was defective.
A completely dry swash plate between the tractor and the semi-trailer also made the truck train difficult to control, points out the road authorities.
The wagon train was banned from use and had to lubricate the turntable before it could continue. The tachograph also had to be checked at a workshop immediately.
On the positive side, the brakes worked within the requirements.
