Traffic – Ludwigshafen am Rhein – Hochstrasse Süd in Ludwigshafen closed until 2023 – economy

Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) – Due to serious damage, the Hochstrasse Süd in Ludwigshafen, which is important for regional traffic, will probably not be accessible until at least 2023. Without further measures, the connection, which has been blocked since the end of August, could not be released, said Mayor Jutta Steinruck (SPD) on Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman. That is the result of intensive investigations. Several variants will probably be submitted to the city council for decision by early December, it said.

Accordingly, three options are being examined: a single-track opening with a supporting structure, a provisional steel bridge or a demolition and new construction, the spokeswoman for the Palatinate municipality announced.

Due to numerous damage, the important traffic axis has been partially closed since the end of August. Finally, further serious crack changes were found on the so-called mushroom construction.

Bridge specialists are currently analyzing to what extent the statics of the elevated road resting on mushroom-shaped supports have been weakened. The closure has long caused excitement beyond the city limits of Ludwigshafen. The Süd-Trasse (B 37) together with the ailing Hochstraße Nord (B 44) is an important lifeline of the region.
