Traffic – Ludwigshafen am Rhein – dispute over costs for partial demolition of elevated roads ended – economy

Frankenthal / Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) – The legal dispute over the costs of a partial demolition of the ailing Hochstraße Süd in Ludwigshafen has ended. The demolition company had withdrawn its application against the city of Ludwigshafen to assume additional costs of around 5.7 million euros, the Frankenthal regional court announced on Wednesday. This means that the civil chamber of the court no longer has to decide on the urgent application made.

The company from Lingen (Ems) in Lower Saxony, which specializes in demolition work, had previously stated that the partial demolition of the elevated road had resulted in additional work that had to be paid for by the city. The city believed that all legitimate claims had already been settled.

The dismantling of the approximately 500 meter long section began in mid-June and was officially completed at the end of September. The demolition was necessary because, according to structural engineers, the section threatened to collapse. The section resting on mushroom-shaped pillars was closed in August 2019 due to cracks in the construction.

The Hochstraße Süd, with the also ailing north route, is an important traffic axis in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region with municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. Ludwigshafen hopes that the connection will be rebuilt by 2025.
