Traffic Light Crisis and Farmer Protests Rock Scholz Government Ahead of Christmas – Mitteldeutsche Zeitung

Hall/MZ (ots) –

The fact that people are being plunged into a new crisis of trust by the traffic lights shortly before Christmas is a serious burden for the Scholz government for 2024. The Chancellor is already feeling that what he said last week is not true: “We are strengthening it social cohesion.”

The loss of trust and anger became apparent on Monday. In Berlin, farmers are protesting with their tractors against the removal of subsidies for agricultural diesel. Now farmers have a strong lobby and are happy to remain silent when they have good years. But the fact is that due to restrictions on their work and their stables, they lose the desire and often money to feed Germany. The one billion euros that the traffic light wants to save by abolishing the climate-damaging subsidy for conventional agricultural diesel will be paid for primarily with unrest.
