The roads are busy, a lot busier than on a normal Tuesday. According to the ANWB, it is even the second busiest rush hour of the year so far. “That has everything to do with the bad weather,” the ANWB tells NU.nl.
“You should expect additional delays this Tuesday evening,” Rijkswaterstaat said on its website. And it shows. During a normal rush hour, Rijkswaterstaat expects around 350 kilometers of traffic jams. Around 5:30 p.m. there was a traffic jam of more than 600 kilometers. Rijkswaterstaat therefore speaks of a very heavy rush hour on Tuesday evening.
At the same time, the ANWB indicated that there was a traffic jam of more than 1,100 kilometers. The fact that there is such a big difference in the numbers is because the ANWB also includes traffic jams on N-roads.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are always busier than the rest of the week, because many people work in the office then. But the ANWB sees that it is much busier today than usual on Tuesday. “We always see more work traffic in November,” says an ANWB spokesperson. “There are few people who are free at that time, so there is just a lot of traffic on the road. If it also rains, the traffic jams are a lot longer than usual.”
It is mainly busy around the big cities and at well-known junctions. Rijkswaterstaat advises road users who still have to go on the road to check the current status before departure. The ANWB advises people to consider hitting the road later to avoid traffic jams.
Yet the biggest crowds have probably already passed. The peak is around 5:30 PM, 5:45 PM. “You won’t be surprised if everything is resolved at 7 p.m. Then there will be no new supply.”
