As a result of the celebration of August 15, 2024, the Hellenic Police has prepared a special plan and is taking more road safety and traffic police measures, for the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents, throughout the country’s road network.
The planning of the measures was carried out in the context of more specific orders from the Hellenic police headquarters for the complete and continuous operation, coordination and management of all traffic services, to ensure smooth and safe road traffic conditions throughout the country’s road network.
In particular, the measures include:
- policing the road network by sector, based on the specific traffic conditions of each area,
- increased police presence and targeted policing at points of the road network, where there is a high incidence of road accidents,
- intensive traffic police measures at the entrances and exits of large urban centres, where increased traffic is monitored,
- special functions and increased traffic measures within cities,
- more traffic measures in places where there is a large concentration of passengers (airports, ports, stations, etc.),
- establishment of general and special traffic control teams, focusing attention on determining dangerous violations, as well as violations that, based on statistics, are responsible for causing serious traffic accidents (excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal passing, use of mobile phones while driving, not using a protective helmet etc.),
- in a timely manner ensuring cooperation and coordination with all relevant agencies – Services, where required,
- informing citizens through the House’s competent Communication Services, at least where it is necessary to provide the public with extensive information about being in traffic and other problems.
In addition, through the implementation of the measures, both the personnel and the methods of the Hellenic Police, especially the Traffic Services, will be more operationally prepared. In particular, patrol cars, motorcycles and standard vehicles will be available, with the appropriate personnel and equipment for effective policing of the country’s road network.
During the holidays, the traffic ban on trucks with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonsas mentioned in the relevant Ministerial Decision.
