Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – The central S-Bahn tunnel under Frankfurt city center must be closed to train traffic from Saturday evening (7 p.m.) to Sunday afternoon (2.30 p.m.). The reason for this is a software update in the electronic signal box, and the technology is also being worked on, Deutsche Bahn announced on Tuesday. Eight out of nine S-Bahn lines in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) area normally cross the tunnel between Frankfurt Central Station and Offenbach-Kaiserlei.
The trains on the lines are now detoured, or sections of the route will be omitted. Buses will be used as a replacement, and additional subway cars will also be on the way. During this time, train tickets are also valid for local public transport in Frankfurt.
