Traffic – Frankfurt am Main – “Blitzermarathon” in Hesse: Police target racers – economy

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – At the “Blitzermarathon” the police in Hesse also targeted speeders. The majority of drivers have kept to the prescribed speeds, said the police headquarters in an interim report on Thursday.

But there were also some negative examples. For example, on Autobahn 3 near Bad Camberg, a driver was driving at 175 km/h, although only 120 km/h was allowed there. In Hanau, a driver was caught in town at 83 kilometers per hour. However, the police will only draw a final conclusion about the “Blitzermarathon” on Friday. The action began early in the morning at 6 a.m. and was to last until 10 p.m. Almost 300 measuring points were set up, and over 800 police officers were on duty.

“Inappropriate speed was the No. 1 cause of accidents in Hesse in the past year with fatally injured and seriously injured people,” said the police chief and Hesse-wide coordinator of the campaign, Gerhard Keller. Therefore, the aim of the campaign is to appeal to drivers to be aware of the dangers and consequences of driving too fast.

The “Blitzermarathon” is coordinated by the European traffic police network “Roadpol”. The campaign week “Operation Speed” has been taking place across Europe since Monday, during which more checks are carried out on European roads.
