Kottayam: A holiday has been announced for schools in the district on Thursday. The holiday was announced as the police imposed traffic control at various places in the district in connection with the funeral procession, public darshan and funeral ceremonies of former chief minister and legislator Oommen Chandy.

Traffic restrictions were imposed in Puthupally, the hometown of former chief minister Oommen Chandy, on Thursday as part of his funeral rites. The restriction is from Thursday morning. The Businessmen Coordination Committee has also announced that the business establishments in Kottayam district will be closed from 1 o’clock tomorrow.
Traffic control in Pudupally is as follows
Vehicles coming from Tengana towards Kottayam should take a U-turn from Njaliakuzhi junction and proceed via Chingavanam. Vehicles going to Kottayam and Manarkad between Njaliakuzhi and Eramallur Kalunk should go towards Kollad from Eramallur Kalunk junction. Vehicles going from Karukachal side to Manarkad, Kottayam side should turn from Vettathu Kavala LP School side and pass through Narakathod Junction to Paiyapadi via Kanjirat Mood Junction to Manarkad. If Karukachal from Kottayam side, vehicles going to Tengana side should turn left at Mandiram Kalunk Junction and take a left at Poomatam, Spice Junction (Kanjirat Mood Junction). ) via IHRD Junction and Narakathod Junction to reach Vettathakkavala LP School Junction.Heavy vehicles coming from Manarkad Kottayam side to Puthupally side should go through Kottayam Town and heavy vehicles coming from Karukachal Tengana side should go via Changanassery or Kangaza 14th Mile.
Parking places for vehicles coming to Pudupally
1. Eramallur Chira Ground
2. Paddy Field Ground
3. Georgian Public School Grounds
4. Pudupally Government HSS School Ground
5. Don Bosco School Ground
6. Nilakkal Church Ground
7. Horeb Church Grounds
Vehicles coming from South (Tengana/ Changanassery) should use Eramallur Chira Ground, Paddy Field Ground and Georgian Public School Ground for parking. Vehicles coming from North (Kottayam/ Manarkad) should use Pudupally Government HSS School Ground and Don Bosco School Ground for parking. Vehicles coming from Karukachal side should use Nilakkal church ground parking.
Avoid parking in the following places
Parking will not be allowed on the roads from Mandiram Kalunk to Puthupally Junction, from Kanjirathin Mood Junction to Nilakkal Palli and from Iravinallur Kalunk to Puthupally Junction.
