Traffic charges: The deadline for their payment expires – The fines – 2024-02-28 09:26:23

Next Thursday, February 29, the deadline expires for the timely payment of the 2024 traffic fees as well as for the immobilization of the vehicles after the extension that was given at the end of December by the decision of the Deputy Minister of Finance Haris Theoharis.

For the “deposit” of plates it is no longer necessary – except in specific cases – to visit the D.O.Y.

The process is done digitally through the taxpayer’s computer or mobile phone through the single digital portal of the public administration gov.gr and in particular on the myCAR platform with the Taxisnet codes.

The user selects “Digital Immobility/Traffic” , registers or selects the registration number of the vehicle he wishes to digitally immobilize. The details of the vehicle’s parking address are recorded, i.e. the postal code of the area, the street and the number.

It is noted that in this case, the license plates remain on the vehicle and the parking area where the car will remain for as long as it is stationary is stated.

Adjustment plan

However, those who are found to be driving their vehicles after the declaration of immobility are facing heavy bells.

They will be asked to pay a fine of 10,000 euros which increases to 30,000 euros in the event of a repeat offence, while at the same time the driver’s license of the owner or possessor of the vehicle will be revoked for three years.

Meanwhile the finance ministry will implement a substantial plan to adjust the road tax paid by 5,423,700 car owners every year as soon as their payment is due on 29 February.

At the same time, the budget’s fiscal potential will be examined to provide incentives through the phase-out process to take cars 20 years or older off the road and replace them with new, modern anti-pollution technology.
