Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Polda Metro Jaya revealed that the severe traffic jam that occurred until midnight Wednesday (3/4) occurred because a number of roads in DKI Jakarta were flooded.
Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Director Kombes Latif Usman said that the intensity of the heavy rain that occurred in the afternoon was what ultimately caused traffic jams in various areas of Jakarta.
“It was (flooding) that (vehicles) piled up, I see. The main cause was flooding in several places,” he told reporters, Wednesday (3/4).
Latif claimed that the traffic situation was normal when it was time to break the fast. However, traffic jams occur again at night when people start their activities to go home.
“Actually, before breaking the fast, it was already running smoothly. But because of the obstruction, people who want to go home are increasingly hampered, which is what causes traffic jams, as well as flooding,” he said.
Furthermore, Latif claimed that as of 23.15 WIB, the traffic jam situation due to flooding at several points had begun to unravel.
“There are still some impacts but it is starting to run smoothly now. Earlier, at half past 9 (20.30 WIB), half 8 (19.30 WIB) it was quite busy,” he concluded.
