Traffic, Car | Save a lot with five simple car tips: – Not difficult at all

Interest rates are rising, electricity prices are at record highs and food prices are rising. Fuel prices are also high, although it has leveled off somewhat in recent months.

According to Naf, thousands of pounds can be saved by going through the car maintenance and looking at what expenses you actually have related to car use.

– There is a lot you can do yourself to make car ownership cheaper and it is not difficult at all. Just by removing the roof box, you can reduce consumption by around ten percent, says Jan Harry Svendsen in Naf.

More opportunities for savings

Naf points to several potential opportunities to make savings and points to both insurance and regularly monitoring fuel prices.

Among other things, they advise motorists to get applications on their phones that show when fuel prices are at their most affordable.

– They provide a good overview of where and when the fuel is at its most affordable. With such an app it is easy to follow even when you are in places where you are not familiar, says Svendsen.

For those who drive an electric car, there is also naturally a lot of money to be made from charging the car when electricity prices are at their lowest during the day.

In addition, Naf recommends that the tires can help you reduce consumption.

– Correct tire pressure not only ensures that consumption is reduced. Correct tire pressure also increases safety and accessibility because the tire has optimal contact with the ground, says Svendsen.

These are Naf’s five saving tips

  • Check the insurances you have. Does the mileage match your car use? Collect prices from other companies and check whether you have membership in organizations that offer discounts with the companies.
  • Refuel when reasonable. Fuel prices vary wildly throughout the week. If you fill 30 liters of fuel a week, you will save NOK 60 per filling if the fuel price varies by NOK 2. If you drive an electric car, you charge when the electricity is at its cheapest throughout the day. Most often it is at night.
  • Check the tire pressure. Correct tire pressure lowers fuel consumption and increases safety because the tire makes optimal contact with the ground.
  • Remove the ski rack and roof box. Driving with the ski box on increases consumption by around 10 per cent.
  • Empty the car of things you don’t use. Increased weight means increased consumption. Empty the car’s trunk and compartment of things you don’t use.
