The ANWB counted 151 traffic jams with a total length of over 780 kilometers at around 08:00 this morning. “Pretty busy,” says an ANWB spokesman. An hour later, the traffic jams had eased somewhat.
Rijkswaterstaat Traffic Information also speaks of a spicy rush hour, with an impressive number of accidents: for example, the A27 from Gorinchem to Utrecht is closed before the Rijnsweerd interchange after a chain collision.
Multi-vehicle accident
“It’s completely fixated around Utrecht,” according to the ANWB. Three trucks and five cars were involved in the accident.
One of those trucks is second one RTV Utrecht struck the median, causing heavy damage to the crash barrier.

A rearward-facing lane was also closed for a short time as a result of the accident. There are long traffic jams in both directions, but also on detours.
The crowd around Den Bosch
There were also major delays after accidents and breakdowns on the A2 towards Den Bosch at the Martinus Nijhoff bridge, the A58 at Etten-Leur (towards Breda) and the A6 (towards Lelystad) at Lelystad-Noord and also on the Amsterdam inner ring road for the De Nieuwe Meer junction.
Long traffic jams on the A4 towards Amsterdam at Roelofarendsveen and on the A15 at Sliedrecht-West will be resolved once the road is reopened.
